by University Hospitals Birmingham

Question by CrazyChick: Question about state benefits and moving out of that state?
If someone is receiving state medical insurance, and they move out of state, what is the best course of action to make sure they stay insured or that the lapse is as short as possible? Do they usually get priority in the new state if they have SSI disability and have had state medical insurance where they used to live?

Best answer:

Answer by Michael
When you get situated in the State you are moving to, go to the nearest office of the agency that administers the benefits you need. They can accurately answer your questions. Your documents from the State you are leaving may be useful for this.

What do I need to know about having braces?

Question by Linds: What do I need to know about having braces?
I just got my brackets on. What do I need to know about braces? What do I eat? How do I brush? They don’t really hurt….

Best answer:

Answer by Aaron
they will hurt when they tighten them! you’ll figure everything out fairly quickly. I had them on for 10 years (thanks to an ortho that put them on WAY too soon) and never really did anything special, brushed normally twice a day and ate anything I wanted to. Abba Zabba was a pain to eat though

If I fractured my arm about an inch above my wrist would i still be able to move my wrist?

Question by iliketocolor: If I fractured my arm about an inch above my wrist would i still be able to move my wrist?
I hurt my arm about an inch above the wrist and my dad thinks I fractured it, but I can still move my wrist. It pops when I move it, but would I be able to move it if my arm really were fractured? Also, my arm hurts to the touch and it’s been like this for a few days now. Help?

Best answer:

Answer by Ginny
Is it swollen? Discolored? Usually an indicator of a fx, [fracture] and sometimes, yes, you CAN move it even though fractured. However, that does not always prove whether it is a fx or sprain. A sprain can be worse than a fx. So in the long run, I would listen to your Dad and go see your MD.

I’m freaking out about this flu that’s going around. I live in california in the LA area. Is the media making it sound worse than it really is? Should I worry more about dying in a car accident than dying of the swine flu?

I need help with what to suggest to my Mum about her memory?

987c2 sell short 7286199250 637f927b66 m I need help with what to suggest to my Mum about her memory?
by Eva Rinaldi Celebrity and Live Music Photographer

Question by Dave: I need help with what to suggest to my Mum about her memory?
She is 63 and over the past few years her memory has got increasingly worse, repeatedly forgetting little things like where the car is or what drink you were making for someone or having the same conversation 10 minutes later is really upsetting her and worrying me.
What can you suggest? Seeing an ordinary GP?

Please help, thank you.
Also, if there is one, what is a likely cause?

Best answer:

Answer by joeyc
I understand how you feel. My mom is 20 years older than yours, however, physically she is in incredible health. Her short term memory has been an issue for the past several years now but my dad did not want to “upset” my mother by addressing this worrisome problem until recently.

Our family Doctor of 30+ years recently sold his practice due to an unexpected illness. The new Doctor(GP) is highly recommended and my parents are now using him. Both (my parents) are being reviewed by him and my dad is scheduled for surgery in January. I will be seeing the new Doctor again in a few weeks and am going to address this issue regarding my mother. I have discussed this issue at length with my mother, however, she refuses to admit she has a memory problem. She gets so adamant about this and she is basically a very loving, easy going woman, bu this issue really gets her upset and she will not even discuss this. I tried talking to our old Doctor a few months ago before he left his practice and he was very dismissive .I was not happy with him, however, now I feel the new Doctor will handle this situation appropriately.

It is very worrisome, but there are different types of illnesses that can be the root cause. I know how you feel and I shudder to think that Alzheimer’s would be my moms medical diagnosis. With this being said, there are medications that can help slow down this dreaded disease.

I would suggest you start by going to your GP for the initial consultation. Your mom does not necessarily have to have the worst case scenario as a diagnosis. If she is on medication for medical conditions, under a lot of stress, and many other factors, could very well be the reason for her situation. Your GP can give you the best options, and medical advice for her.

Sorry I got off track here, but it is a very sensitive issue for myself and my family, so again I can relate. I hope you and your mom get the best possible news. Tell your mom not to worry too much until she has the facts. All the best to you and yours for the coming New Year.

does anyone know anything about collodial silver and does it have lots of health benefits?

a0325 sell short 1532762801 42da09e4aa m does anyone know anything about collodial silver and does it have lots of health benefits?
by dakotaduff

Question by Jess: does anyone know anything about collodial silver and does it have lots of health benefits?
The Romans used to use silver bars to get rid of infections. but how does colloidal silver work?

Best answer:

Answer by The mom
The short answer is, it doesn’t work like the makers claim. Colloidal silver is a stable suspension of submicroscopic bits of silver usually in water. Colloidal is a chemistry term that just means the bits are evenly distributed through the liquid. Milk is a collodial suspension, in the same manner. As far as the benefits, those are dubious at best. What is at risk is the chance of developing argyria, a condition in which silver salts deposit in the skin, eyes, and internal organs, and the skin turns ashen-gray. Many cases of argyria occurred during the pre-antibiotic era when silver was a common ingredient in nosedrops. When the cause became apparent, doctors stopped recommending their use, and reputable manufacturers stopped producing them. The FDA forbids them to be sold as medicine, which is why they are now sold as dietary supplements. That lets them fly through a loophole, and means they are subject to almost no controls. As a result, the amount of actual silver in the product will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer and batch to batch. Some of them add a preservative to the water, and some don’t. Those that don’t tend to be found contaminated with bacteria you wouldn’t like to have- which kind of flies in the face of the claims that it will kill bacteria. Silver does kill bacteria, yes. But the concentrations required to do that also put you at higher risk for developing the argyria. Nobody can tell you what concentration will do the trick for you either, they won’t know that until you turn grey. Then of course, it’s a bit late. The Roman doctors used a lot of things to treat their patients which you would find of dubious value at best. One of the cures involved crushed burnt deer antlers, goat manure and ass blood mixed in wine, to cure jaundice. They also used mercury to treat what you would know as syphillis. It works, yes- but it’s pretty dangerous, and penicillin is a lot easier and safer. While the Romans are famous for many things, medical treatment was not one of them. Unlike gold, silver can actually be toxic to the body, which is why it is not used for it’s antibiotic properties. Since the dangers far outweigh the benefits, you wouldn’t want to take it. It has no health benefits that are worth the risk. And just because the ancient Romans may have used it is not a good arguement. Had they had access to modern medicine, you can bet your bippy they’d have used it. The Romans were great believers in results, rather than the source of the remedy.

Well, I have cellulite on my a$ $ and back thighs.. I also have wide hips. :// My boyfriend says he doesn’t mind it, but it bothers me a lot. Even wearing shorts or going to the beach just made me squirm. icon sad Do guys care about girls having cellulite? I really don’t like it and find it really UN-attractive. GUYS, do you really look at that stuff on a girl?

Best answer:

Answer by Mark
well any amount means you probably need to lose some weight but if it’s just a little it doesn’t look that bad. it’s better to have curves and a little cellulite than no curves and no cellulite… and it depends what the curves are like… hard to tell without a pic!
