When gout is healing does the pain move from your toe to the ball of your foot (underneath)?
Question by Otto L: When gout is healing does the pain move from your toe to the ball of your foot (underneath)?
My pain was unbearable the other day and now it seems to have moved from the toe to the ball of my foot. Will the uric acid deposits dissipate or will they continue to move up my foot and into my leg? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I am currently taking Colchisine for the Gout and the pain is getting better, but it seems to be moving. It is now in the ball of my foot. I’ve never had gout before and am looking for proof that this is subsiding. I am also drinking lots of fluids and drinking cherry juice and eating fresh blueberries. I’ve been all over the web looking for cures…now I just want some follow up on the pain and when to know when it is healing.

Gout is a disorder that results from the build-up of uric acid in the tissues or a joint—most often the joint of the big toe. An attack of gout can be miserable, marked by the following symptoms:
• Intense pain that comes on suddenly—often in the middle of the night or upon arising
• Redness, swelling, and warmth over the joint—all of which are signs of inflammation
You may be getting this in more than one joint now as it is getting worse.
Initial treatment of an attack of gout typically includes the following:
• Medications. Prescription medications or injections are used to treat the pain, swelling, and inflammation.
• Dietary restrictions. Foods and beverages that are high in purines should be avoided, since purines are converted in the body to uric acid.
• Fluids. Drink plenty of water and other fluids each day, while also avoiding alcoholic beverages, which cause dehydration.
• Immobilize and elevate the foot. Avoid standing and walking to give your foot a rest. Also, elevate your foot (level with or slightly above the heart) to help reduce the swelling. The symptoms of gout and the inflammatory process usually resolve in three to ten days with treatment. If gout symptoms continue despite the initial treatment, or if repeated attacks occur, see your physician for maintenance treatment that may involve daily medication. In cases of repeated episodes, the underlying problem must be addressed, as the build-up of uric acid over time can cause arthritic damage to the joint.

What is this pain moving from abdomen to back.?
Question by kai_kai217: What is this pain moving from abdomen to back.?
My boyfriend has this moving pain that happens pretty often. The pain starts in the abdomen and then slowly moves to his mid upper back. Its been happening for about a year or so but he usually just suffers through it because pain killers don’t help. To rate the pain would probably be a 10 outta 10. Has anyone heard of this kind of pain?

You left out something very important. Which side is the pain on?
If the pain is on the right side it sounds quite typical of a gallbladder attack. I am a doctor. Within one year, I had 7 attacks. They are very painful. If I didn’t have pain meds I had to go to the emergency room. Unfortunately, if you go to an emergency room and they do an ultrasound and don’t see gallstones and see nothing in the blood work to indicate something is awry they may not administer pain medications. Some people have drug addiction problems and they give these type symptoms to get narcotics. Many ER doctors are very cautious of things like this. I did not have gallstones. Sometimes I would have abnormalities in my blood work when I was in the ER but sometimes the enzymes were not elevated until the next day. As it turned out I had trauma to my gallbladder and it would induce an attack. During a severe attack, I went to the ER, all tests were normal but my stomach was visibly distending. The Doctor performed a CT and found that my gall bladder was severely bruised. I had the wind knocked out of me earlier in the day with an elbow to my rib cage.I had a patient that had a bad habit of elbowing me just as I would perform an adjustment (I’m an orthopedic chiropractor). I was injected with pain meds 3 times before the pain was tolerable. The next day, I compared my ER visits to the days that I treated this women and each time I had an attack I had treated her. I tell this story because I understand how painful it can be. I also tell the story because there are things other than gall stones that cause gall bladder attacks.
It is quite typical with gall bladder involvement to have pain that starts in the abdomen and radiates around to the back, for some it goes to the shoulder blade.
Please add an additional comment if the pain is not on the right side. Any type of treatment such as ER visits would also be helpful.

What are the benefits of taking Omega-Berry 3 Fish Oil?
Question by flowersinbloom25: What are the benefits of taking Omega-Berry 3 Fish Oil?
I have heard good things about Omega 3 fatty acids and I am just wondering what are the health benefits from taking this vitamin supplement and if anyone knows the price range of a bottle of it? Thanks in advanced!

Fish Oil – Health Benefits
Fish oil high in omega3 fatty acids has been shown by several research studies to have many health benefits. These can include:
Cholesterol/ Cardiovascular Disease
Research has shown that omega3 fatty acids from fish oil help to remove the ‘stickiness’ of blood cells, reducing the chances for it to clot and prevent the heart from beating irregularly.
By stopping platelets from clustering together the coronary artieris are pretected from being damaged. The omega3s from fish oil can also help to reduce the risk for angina through the reduction of high blood pressure, the lowering of triglyceride levels and the reduction of high blood pressure.
This, in itself provides a strong case for adding omega3 fish oil to our diets!
Arthritis and other Inflamatory Diseases
Both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis have been shown to respond to an increase in intake of omega3 based fish oils. According to research published in the highly respected medical journal The Lancet, patients with rheumatoid arthritis respond particularly well to fish oil supplementation. Fish oils can significantly decrease pro-inflammatory compound production which can lead to a decrease in joint stiffness and pain.
Other research has been able to show a direct link between the onset of arthritis and a deficiency in omega3 fatty acid levels in the body.
The Arthritis Council and the Arthritis Research Council in the UK both strongly recommend omega3 fatty acid supplementation from fish oil or other oils such as flax.
Healthy Pregnancy
It is widely accepted that a woman’s nutritional needs change when she becomes pregnant. This includes both an increase, as well as a decrease of certain foods, drinks and supplements. While we all know that an increase in nutrients during this time is beneficial, however, just as an increase in certain nutrients can support fetal development, deficiency of a number of nutrients can lead to birth defects or complications.
Essential Fatty Acids (omega3 and omega6) in the correct ratio and quantifty can offer exceptional benefits in terms of fetal development, the health of the mother-to-be and the health of the baby after being born.
Menstrual Cramps
According to the San Diego State University Health Centre, 10% of the 37.5 million menstruating women in the US can become completely incapacitated by menstrual pain and research from the University of California states that 42 million women in the US suffer from menstrual pain in total.
Research studies are now showing a strong correlation between the levels of omega3 in the diet and the level of menstrual pain experienced. One particular study undertaken in Denmark has shown that fish oils can result in a dramatic reduction in menstrual pain as the omega3 fatty acids effectively reduce pain and cramps are relieved by the relative amounts of omega6 as found in most fish oil supplements.
Mental Disorders
New research has again shown that a diet rich in omega3 fatty acids can effectively treat and prevent depression and other mental disorders. The research, published in issue 15 of the journal Biological Psychiatryhas actually shown that omega3 fatty acids and foods that are high in uridine were as good as (and often better than) different anti-depressant drugs in reducing the symptoms of depression.
A high-profile article in 1999, published by the Harvard University, put omega3 fish oil in the mental health limelight by offering solid proof that fish oil could significantly reduce the effects of bipolar disorders. Individuals who had been condemned to years of high-strength, high-risk pharmaceuticals began to switch to courses of omega3 supplementation.
Skin Conditions
Omega3 rich fish oils are highly effective in releiving the symptoms of, and preventing, skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and lupus. Omega3 fatty acids are highly effective at contolling inflammation and have been shown to improve the condition of skin, hair and nails generally.
Similarly to with arthritis, in many studies these conditions correlate with an omega3 deficiency. Studies also suggest that individuals who are supplementiing their diet with omega3 fish oil can see measurable improvements in as little as one-month.
Raynaud’s Disease
Fish oils can help to delay the onset of the numbness, tingling and other symptoms of Raynaud’s disease. Omega3’s help particularly by inhibiting the inflamation of vessels. The benefits as outlined above, with regards to cardiovascular disease, can also be very beneficial to those suffering from Raynaud’s i.e. the benefits of omega3 in improving circulation of the blood can help to improve tolerance to cold etc.
Folic acid, vitamin B6 and magnesium are also reputed to benefit those with Raynaud’s.
Alzheimer’s Disease
Fish oils and omega3 in general has been proven to have a positive effect on those suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and can be hig

Question by P3847: What pain relief tablets are good for trapped nerves in neck/shoulder. Please help?
My dad has had a bad shoulder since Wednesday, he went to the doctor on Thursday and he told him he had a trapped nerve and prescribed him Tramadol, but this has many side effects and doesn’t really numb the pain for him.
He is in a lot of agony so i wondered if anyone has experienced this and/or has any advice on pain relief and if you know what sort of time it could take to subside. I will pass on any answers
Thank you !

trapped nerves are really painful, and pain medications may only just take the edge of the pain for your dad. a more direct approach may be needed – such as a visit to a good physiotherapist who can work on the muscle spasms that may be contributing to the pain and nerve entrapment.

Q&A: What could cause forearm pain without a bruise and no pain from moving it?
Question by skibum_us: What could cause forearm pain without a bruise and no pain from moving it?
I am able to move my arm but it is tender to the touch near the elbow. I can move my arm with no pain but it hurts when I lean and put weight on it (like just putting my arm down to rest it on a table – I have pain) I am unable to put is down to rest it or to put it down to write. I am going to to doctor in a couple of days but I am just doing a little research. All I know it is not tennis elbow. Because I can move my arm with no pain – just can not put it down to rest it.

It hurt physically, but even more damaging was the fact that he laughed after inflicting this terrible pain upon the most sacred part of my body. I am, after all, happily married to a beautiful and kind woman. Her only desire…our only desire, was to be fruitful and multiply, filling the earth with children. After such an incident, I am unable to reproduce. My wife of 20 years packed up her things one cold and rainy morning in early spring and left me. I can’t say that I blame her. My entire self image has been affected. I can’t even look at myself in the mirror anymore. All I see and feel is the pain and disgrace from that terrible tragedy.
